STAINING AND POLISHING FLOORS.
Parquet floors are very attractive, t-ut many people are unable to afford- them.
The substitute staining can be very effective and also very disaopoidting, as often after a little ordiniry wear and tear the surface is ruined.
' T>he following method of staioing will undoubtedly prove of value, as H is generally permanent.
First of all if the floor surround has been previously stained, wash off- any grease 'with warm water andj soda. When the floor has dried, apply with a rag or bTush a stain composed of lib of potash and *lb.of Vandyke - brown water stain, . These should be boiled together and applied when fairly -warm. After this has well dried into the wood a coat of brown French polish anould be applned. This can be done with a brush.
-For finishing lib'of beeswax should be cult into small pieces and soaked in one pint of turpentine overnight. Apply this thinly over the floor and then, finish by giving a thorough rubbing.
Any cracks should be filled before hand with a mixture of pulp made from paperiianger's paste and paper.
