FIRST LOWER HUTT GROUP BOYS SCOUTS.
The First Lower Hutt Group of Boy Scouts is very fortunate in having possession of two of the most essential needs in scouting—(a) a permanent hall oc their own in which to carry out iha "Game of Scouting for Boys," and (b) an enthusiastic committee of parents and ot&efs interested in the welfare of scouting.
The combination of these two points has resulted in the past year being one" o.f the. most successful the Group has yet experienced, . y
On Tuesday, 12th November, an excellent concert to raise funds for camp purposes was presented by local artists together with' others from Wellington. The audience was not up to expectations a-> regards numbers, but those who did come-along went away with glad^heaits for a very pleasant evening pas experienced. I ' \A: children's plain and faifcey dress f dance, which is now an annual activity oc t»he committee, was held at^ the Scouts Den on Saturday 1 afternoon, 16th •Nivember. The worthy president, His. Wrrship the Mayor, (Sir Alexander Eobeits), together with Lady Roberts, very ably judged t>he varied array of costumes ana their task could not be regarded as a lig&t one as there were ever 100 children in fancy costume in the Grand March, J <■
.Ainagnilicent bouquet of roses was presented to Lady Roberts and a button hole to Sir Alex Roberts, by. a dainty little fairy, Miss Margaret Clark, the Eover leader's little daughter.
In the evening the final dance and "500;' evening was held for tie
adults, when the exhibition dances were again presented before a very large gathering. The girls who presented the Spanish dance showed their appreciation of the efforts of their teacher- (Mrs "Westbivry) -and her assistants (Mrs Maekay and Mrs Mair) by presenting each with a handsome bouquet of roses.
Opportunity was taken at this stage to show the esteem of the committee
for the faithful and untiring services rendered throughout season by Mr -and Mis Greo. I?eek, Mrs Barber and Mr.,Jameson, each, being presented with a token, of appreciation.
Sincere thanks are tendered to all who gave donations in ciis-h. and kind and.' those who assisted in any waywhatever to make this ifunetion so great a success. The committee also desires to thank all those who Slave supported the movement throughout the seat on,'also the local paper for valuable help in "many directions.
