WOBURN BOWLING AND CROQUET CLUB.

OPENING OF SEASON!

The bowling and croquet season was officially opened at Woburn by the club president, Mr. H. J. Mullholland last Saturday afternoon. The weather was all that, could be desired and a large number of visitors from other clubs were most hospitably entertained.

In a few brief remarks the President welcomed the visitors and thanked the members of the Ghreen Committee also the green-keeper, for their work in improving the greens since last season. In the absence of Mrs. Mullholland— who was indisposed—the President call ed upon Miss Mullholland to declare the green open by throwing up the first Kitty- Mr. J. Rowej the senior member and honorary, secretary, put up tiie first bowl and scored the first toucher of the season. Master Leon Piper presented beautiful bouquets on behalf of his mother to Miss Mullholland, JVlrs Rowe, and Mrs.

Monks, the captain of the croquet section.

Miss Mullholland also officially opened the eroqtfet club by putting the first ball through the hoop.

Sir Alex. Roberts was an interested spectator and t-he green was also visited by the Member for the District, Hon. T. M. Wilford, who was accompanied by Mrs Wilford and Miss McLean.

The tea tables were artistically decorated by Mrs Vagg with bowls of handsome anemones, tulips, maidenhair fern and other spring flowers.

A word of praise is due to the energetic ladies, of the committee who provided a delightful afternoon tea for t>he large gathering.

The opinion was freely expressed that this young club has made rapid strides and that the condition of the greens showed a marked improvement since last season.

A xink from the Hutt Club was defeated by the home team by 20 to 37.

The croquet competitions were won by Mrs Goddard (Central), Ladder Competition; Mrs Phillips (Karon), French Croquet; Mrs Ma'edonald (Waimaria), Angles; Mrs. Hughes (Waimarie), Golf.
