LOWER HUTT TENNIS CLUB.

The official opening of the Lower Huitt Tennis' Club, off Wilford Street, takes place on Saturday afternoon, the 2nd November, when the grass courts will be available in addition to the hard courts which are already open for play.

Overt fifty, new members have joined t-he club this season and with the idea of bringing members together early, a Yankee Tournament was held on Saturday afternoon. Over sixty members participated and everybody enjoyed a very' pleasant afternoon.

'The matches were confined to championship combined doubles in which the pairs were drawn by lot. As might be expected, some pairs were much stronger thai- others, but through judicious matching some very even games restvlte<J. At the end of the third round only three pairs remained unbeaten. Mrs King and Ward drew the bye and the semi-finals were played between Mra Cartar and Hill and Miss Hiddleston and Evans, resulted in a win for the latter'6 — 1,.. In the final, which was more even than the scores' suggest, Mrs King and Ward emerged winners by 6—3. ' ' . .

The dub seeretaiy, Mr. M. JV Power, presented prizes to' the winners, and Mr. Ward suitably thanked the committee for the very • fine afternooni'a sport that had been provided.
