VANDALISM IN RIDDIFORD PARK.
The Rock Garden Society is doing its best to beautify our town and to educate the puiblie in that branch of gardening, but it is most discouraging to find that what is being done is not , fulfty appreciated- by everybody who visits the rockery in Eiddiford Park. i Sonic poor sport or sports, have lately been taking a malicious joy in pulling up numbers of the valuable plants and throwing 'them on the ground nearby. Surely this is a contemptible form of practical joke only excelled by those small-minded people who mix up the labels that denote the names of the rock plants, thereby causing considerable trouble to those in charge of the garden. These labels are placed there purely for the purpose of supplying the general public with valuaible information and it is very discouraging to find their efforts so lightly appreciated. We are not at all sure that the children who use the play ground are the ones responsible for the trouble, but we would respectfully ask the parents of the children who visit the playground to do their part by instructing the children to respect public property. What an excellent opportunity is offered to the Boy Scouts (twho are ever looking for good deeds to do), to take an interest in this aspect of civic pride. Should a scout find anyone practising these silly tricks, let him give information at once to the gardener who lives on the ground and thus record his good deed for the day. It is not the wish of the society to resort to extreme measures to stop the annoyance, but if it continues there will be no other alternative than to ask the police to take the matter up.
