HOARDINGS.
(To the' Editor)
Si r/ __lt is with feelings of disgust that I read of the decision of the Borough Council to grant a lease to erect' advertising"hoardings at the approach of the Hutt Bridge. Their decision to do so "might" have been overlooked had the amount of lease been £500, but to sanction this form of "beautifying" the borough for a paltry £55 is beyond comprehension.
It would be interesting to know if tenders were called for this lease. What beauty is there in these advertising •hoardings? Can they in any way compare with a row of shrubs and trees? Why permit the beauties of this fine suburb to be dispoiled by such unnatural additions to the landscape. I sincerely trust the Progress and other Leagues who arc looking to the welfare of the suburb will take this matter up and once and for all make it quite clear t&at it is not the wish of the residents of this borough that this lease or any other similar lease for hoardings be permitted to be erected on any borough property. —I am etc.,
