HUTT VALLEY HOCKEY CLUB.
SENIOR A
The.' match, palyed at Karori'No. 2 last Saturday ended in a comfortable win for'Hutt by defeating Wellington 3—o. The ground was sodden, sheets of water covering the ground in several places, and the game was played in neavy rain. Play opened in a brisk way but any semblance of combination was marred by the ball sticking in the mud. Time and again any promising movements by eit&er side would be spoilt by players over-running the ball. Soon after the initial ibully Smith opened the scoring with a good goal. Hutt 1, Wellington 0, Wellington; made several determined efforts to equalize \>xA could not beat down Hutt's stubborn defence. Hoare next scored from a scramble in Wellington's circle which was , nothing but a miniature. lake. Hutt 2/ Wellington 0. Halftime was soon after, the players just changing over-- and starting the game again. The play was carried up field by Hutt forwards where Gnwilliam secured and with a clever piece of work drew the goalie and dummied to scoto Butt's third goal. Hutt 3, Wellington 0. The local team were without the services of their regular goalie and Ids place was filled with a JuniOT B player, W. Johnston, whose form on the day was equal to Senior A standard, time and again saving the day for his team, SENIOR B. HUTT v, TRAINING COLLEGE. This-game, played at Karori, could not be called a game of hockey by any manneT of means. It could almost be likened to , i&e joyous playing in the w«t, splashing in mud puddles, of little boys, without the element of joy. A few minutes after the beginning of the game, Training College put in the first goal. After a great deal of wallowing in the mud Hutt forwards managed to penetrate the defence and C.. Bell put a nice shot past the goalie, Play remained very even for s6me time, P. Judd scoring another one for Hutt." A' few moments before time Training • College scored again. No other score ■ was notched so tiie game resulted in a ( drew two all. The Hutt centre for- 1 ward, very often /through the game '• seemed to imagine he was centre half. It does not; help the team to suffer ' from delusions as it hinders the backs ' in their task and also the other for- " wards wtio have thus no one to whom ' to centre when necessary i Neither '< should the centre forward play on the ( wings; there is a man there already. <
