SWIRES v. HTTTT

Anything but interesting football was seen at the Hutt Recreation ground last Saturday, when the local senior team played Swifts.

The visitors had the advantage of the wind in the first spell and Hutt commenced very promisingly, Lowry securing the ball and passing to Nicolle w&o carried play to the Swifts' end of the field where he sent in a good shot which was saved by the goalie. The ball still hove Ted round near the visitors' goal, finally Longbottom gave away a corner. Swifts managed to clear their citadel until MeDougall robbed the opposing centre for the ball, who in»turn placed nicely to Nicolle, who sent weakly behind Swifts. They became aggressive until finally Chapman was able to clear well down the fieldjtb Nicolle., who in turn sent across to McPhee, who finished up by putting past. Swifts again reached the. home team's end of the field, but good saves by Webster kept them at bay, one of the Hutt players nea-rly presented them with a goal when- he handled just outside the penalty area. Play was very poor at this stage of the game, both team kicking wildly and missing numerous opportunities. It was left to Diekson to open the score for Swifts. It was a fine effort and Webster who was the^only player who was playing a good game had no "hance with the shot. This reverse seemed to do the home team some good as they put more pep into their play. Just before half time Nieolle had a corner which he placed well for MeDougall to head through thus making the scores even. The same two players nearly repeated this effort a few minute 3 later. Crundwell was the next player who had a good try but just missed by inches'. Half time sounded with play in midfield. On resuming, with the wind behind them the Hutt commenced to press and Lowry who had changed places with McPh.ee at inside right, scored the second goal. The same playeT added the third goal, this one the goalie partly saved from Crund- .-■ "- i—j. t -r.--Pollo.winor ,UV JjUStled 3the ball through. The next effort to succeed was Crundwell's, Nicolle first having a good try and the goalie saved, but the ball travelled to tit.c inside left who in turn gave the goalie no chance. *

The game was played on a heavy ground and one could easily pick out the players who pay attention to their training and I think it is up to thoseplayers who don't attend on pTactice night to. gel; busy as it means that on a •heavy ground or a fast game the willing horse at the end is having to do another's share. -

Footballer players received ~a nice surprise when they discovered that the pavilion was well lighted last Saturday and many expressions of thanks were voted to the councillor who brought t>he. matter forward.
