IN AND AROUND TAITA
The usual weekly euchre party was held last Tuesday evening. There was a good attendance and much enthusiasm -was shown. The winner of the ladies prize proved to be Mrs G. Kells, and Mrs •Goodman second. Mr Y. Havard won the gents' prize with Mr F. Gorrie, Jnr.', second. , ; ' Taita met Melrose on the local ground on Saturday in 'the presence of a good' crowd of spectators. The game was a •hard and evenly contested struggle, "both teams scoring an equal number of points—B all. -_" ' ' The Taita team was as follows :-r— Backs: Rix-Trott, J. Brice, A* Doran, E. Foster, S. Carter, Percy Moore, P. Brice. Forwards: L. Murray, D. Hutton, Ted Bartosh, Birkard, E. Pileher, L. Gosse, G. Reiche. . Referee: Mr A. Francis. At one stage of the game. Percy Moore made a splendid opening passing the ball to Carter to J. Brice, who scored Taita's first try. E. Foster converted. Taita 5, Melrose 0. Shortly after the commencement of the second spell> Melrose scored a good try, which was converted thus making honours even. Both tea.ms were now fighting hard for-supremacy and it was not long before" Pat Brice secured the ball and scored. E. Foster missed with the kick. Taita 8, Melrose 5. With the score against them Melrose got into the struggle again and by a determined effort were successful in securing a try, which was unconverted, a few minutes before the end of the game, making honours even. Taita 8, Melrose 8. Sixth Grade defeated Athletic by 13 points to 3. Seatoun won by default from Taita several men not turning up. Taita Juniors will meet Poneke on No. 1 ground on Saturday( when a good game should ensue.
