ARTILLERY CAMP AT WAIPUKURAU
On 17th. March an "At Home .vas given by the officers and men of the 17th Mounted Battery, N.Z.F.A., who ! have recently been encamped at Waipukurau. There was a large atteadanciy of visitors and a ve,ry enjoyable afternoon • was spent. An interesting exhibition of big gun drill was given by the territorials who were divided j into two teams. The guns were of *.h.e ! 6in. Howitzer type and the manner in which they were man-handled was '..he subject of much praise from the visitors. ._-■'■ Gun Drill. (Possible, 100 points);. ' •' The results of the gun drill were >s follow^:—D sub-section, 85 points;. C. sub-section, 83;' B* sub-section, 80; A sub-section, 79. Field Events. The field events were carried -.mt on foot "owing to the fact that most of the horses had been sent back to: *he various parades. The tug-ofrwax created considerable, excitement, and was finally won by the B sub-section, after several well contested tugs. -The opposing teams were well matched, and each contest was a "close, go." Basketball. Several games of basketbaHf wore played during the course of the affceri noon, the final of the camp basketball competition being won by B subsection, which, defeated^ Headquarters; section. A return match was placed between a territorial team and a team from the local Ladies' Basketball Club> resulting in a draw, ~ nine points being notched by each team. Officers' Obstacle Eace. !
