(To the Editor)

I would like to contradict a statement which, appears in your paper of last week's date. Under the heading "{Renaming of Streets" you state that it was prbposed to name one of the streets that approach the new bridge "Ewen Street" after " ex-eouneillor D. A. Ewen who was the first person to suggest the new bridge." Now sir, any old resident knows that this is very far from the truth, as many years before ever exeouneillor Ewen came to reside in the Hutt there was no small commotion in council circles when the late Councillor John Ward brought forward the proposal to build a bridge on the site where the present new one now stands. Mr. Ward was veiy strongly opposed to the building of the present old bridge and as a mark of "his disapproval he resigned from the Borough Council.—l any etc.,
