HUTT VALLEY DRAMATIC & OPERATIC SOCIETY'S DANCE

The first annual dance of the Hutt Valley Dramatic and Operatic Society was imminently successful, and all present enjoyed a delightful evening. The music, under the leadership of Assheton Harbord (producer fpr the Society), was of excellent quality, adding appreciably to the success of the dance.

The Society is young, but none the less vigorous, and has already made a host of friends in the district despite the fact that there are several counterattractions booked for the same evening, a very fair attendance resulted.

During the evening the secretary, Mr A. C. Sceats, made a presentation, on behalf of the Society, to Mr, Assheton Harbord, as a token of their esteem and in appreciation of his work in helping to make their recent production o± ' ' Cupid and The Ogre such an outstanding, success. In replying, and thanking the Society for their gift and expressions of appreciation, Mr. Harbord made the announcement that in response to hundreds of requests, the Society would repeat the performance of Cupid and the Ogre at the King George Theatre on Monday, November sth,

He was afforded a rousing reception and the festivities were then resumed.

Among those present were Mrs Breach, wearing a very prtty dress of pink taffeta; Miss Chesterman, very dainty in white* net and silver lace; Miss Beere, in blue; Miss Knight in blue crepe de chene; Miss Wagner in white net; Miss Tonks, looking very attractive in pink georgette; Miss Mcßain in pink; Mrs Colin. Andrews in pink crepe de chene with blue tinsel; Miss Jean Andrews, charmingly gowned in mauve georgette and satin; Mrs Laureston in white; Mrs Henderson in blue, Miss Taylor in eau de nil taffeta; Miss Adams, blue crepe de chene; Miss Laurie, in blue and gold; Mrs. J. M. Power, and Mrs Newel, both charmingly gowned, and many others.

The committee responsible for this successful event were: —Mesdames Henderson, Andrews, Laureston, Shadlock and Miss Adams; Messrs Wilson, Shannon, Jones and A .C. Sceats (hon. see).
