MOERA PRESBYTERIAN HALL
On Wednesday 3rd inst a social was held in the Presbyterian Hall, Moera with the object of honouring those who helped in erecting it. ' There was a large attendance of St. Stephens' people present. Games, interspersed with songs, made the time pass rapidly.
Just before supper the Rev. J. E. Lopdell gave a resume of how the hall came to be built.
There is still a small sum owing on it, and the question of furnishing is still to be overcome. Nevertheless the achievement of building such a hall was a credit to one and all and justified the sanctified optimism of those who felt that such a building could be erected.
Mr. Lopdell mentioned the names of carpenters, handy men, and specialists, who gave their time and substance as a contribution towards its erection. Mr. Lopdell then presented Mr. A. Snedden with a silver tea service as a gift from the office-bearers of the Church.
Mr. Snedden has been the inspiration of all the workers, and has kept at his job, and has finished a hall second to none in workmanship and material. Mr Lopdell reminded Mr Sneddon that Mrs Sneddon had a part in the present as her sacrifice was great in giving her husband up evening after evening.
Mr. E. P. Lambert and Mr. G. E. Carnie also spoke, giving praise to -all the workers and especially to Mr Snedden, and wishing that this memento may remind him of hours of work done in a good cause. After Mr Snedden replied, the whole gathering rose and sang "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow."
