WAIWHETU AFFAIRS.
The monthly general meeting of the Waiwhetu Progressive Association was held on. Tuesday evening, Mr. A. J. Nieholls presiding over a good attendance. A letter was received from the Postal Department stating that.it could not see its way to erect a slot telephone at the corner of Waterloo and Waiwhetu roads. The secretary reported that the question of arranging for the 7.55 a.m. Waterloo train to arrive in Lambton at a more convenient time had been referred to the member for the district for Ms assistance. Further improvements needed in the service were discussed and also the necessity for a Sunday service. The system of paying electricity accounts in the district was criticised. Members pointed out that the reading of meters is at irregular intervals, and if one did not happen to have the money handy to pay the meter-reader it necessitated having to go to the main office, which was some considerable, distance away. It was decided to ask the Power Board to establish a receiving office for the district.
