HUTT CROQUET CLUB.

The official opening of the Hutt Croquet Club took place on Tuesday, 9th October, when there was a large attendance of members and friends. The weather was ideal and the green and beautiful surroundings called forth many favourable comments from all present. The president (Mrs. W. J. Eddie) -apologised for the absence of Mrs. W. S. Austin (president of the Wellington Croquet Association), and welcomed the many visitors present, amongst whom were Mrs E. MeKenzie and Mrs. D. Wilkinson (officers of. the Association). In the course of her speech Mrs. Eddie Teferred to the various improvements i;hat have been made to the croquet pavilion since last season and which will foe much appreciated by every member. then called on Mrs. Hollard, the oldest member of the club, to send the first ball through the hoop and formally declare the green open, Beautiful bouquets were presented to Mrs. Eddie, Mrs. Yates (vice-president), and Mrs. Hollard.

A most delicious afternoon tea was served in the pavilion, after which most •of the visitors took part in the various competitions.

The winners of the competitions were: French, Mrs Warner Ist, Mrs Fairbairn 2nd. Golf, Mrs Johnson Ist, Mrs Laurie 2nd. Putting, Mrs Christie Ist, Mrs •Chisholm 2nd. Target, Mrs H. Parker list, Mrs Lewis 2nd.
