A TRUE SAUSAGE STORY.
An amusing incident was witnessed last week in the neighbourhood of Knights Road East. The lady of a certain house,, before going out to visit a neighbour,, placed a plate on her back doorstep in readiness for the butcher when he called to deliver her order. This he did shortlyafter, leaving some beautiful steak and a string of sausages. Not very faraway there lives a pretty pet dog. Now Fido ; sniffing the morning breeze, smelt the sausages and he was very soon in. possession of far more than he could eat at one meal, so he amused himself by dragging the savoury string around the? lawn. At this moment a Chinaman happened* to come along with the vegetables, and realising that one of his best Customers was being deprived of her breakfast, beat Fido off, rescued what remained of thestring of sausages, carefully brushed ofT the mud etc., with his hands, and restored: the prize to the plate on the doorstep,, carefully covering its contents with somestray paper. It is presumed that the family thoroughly enjoyed the dainties mother provided for their meal. Truly"What the eye does not see the heart does" not grieve.' '
