DANGEROUS DRIVING.

At the Lower Hutt Court yesterdayBertha Lavina Cooper appeared before Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., charged witfc. driving a motor car at a speed dangerous to the public. Spencer Gettrge Hutton said he had been driving for seven years and on the day in question he was driving a motor ear in Victoria Street with the -intention of turning into Railway Avenue. When he was in' the middle of the ■ road lie noticed a car travelling towards Mm at a high speed and thought it /would pull in behind him, but /instead shot out in front of him and stopped on the footpath. He his speed at 10 miles "an hour. He dfd^not put his hand out when taking the corner. •■""■'-. . ~" ■...."•' George Cooper, labourer stated that he remembered the accident on June 4th. He was walking along the left side of the street towards the Railway Hotel when he saw Hutton drive across the road on his correct side. The car driven by Mrs Cooper .was travelling too fast to stop and swerved on to the footpath. Both ears. were grazed. Constable Anson stated that Hutton callfid"**«.t .-the Police Station and he went immediately back with Hutton to the -scene, of the accident. He produced a plan showing .the skid marks. Bertha Lavina Cooper, giving evidence said that on the 4th June she was driving her car accompanied by a passenger. She was on her correct side of the road and was travelling under 15 miles an hour. I saw the other ear but-he did not put out his hand' and I did not know which way he was going. He was travelling at about 25 miles an homy and took the corner very sharp. To avoid a collision she swerved to the right and stopped in front of the hotel. Mr Black, who was a passenger in Mrs v Co6per's car corroborated her evidence. . After summing up the evidence the Magistrate dismissed the charge.
