IN AND AROUND TAITA.

An accident occurred^ on Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Garden Road and Main Road, when two cyclists collided. It appears that as the cyclist on the Main Road was turning into Garden Road, she skidded and ran into a^'cyclist going towards the west. Luckily both escaped with slight abrasions. A case of minor theft at Taita was reported to the police early in the week, a house occupied by a wellknown resident, -having been entered during the temporary absence of, the owner and a child's money box stolen. On "Wednesday, August Ist, a very enjoyable social was held by the Taita Ladies' Guild at the Methodist Church. Items were given by several members, and the, various games and competitions were much appreciated by all/present. The Ladies' Guild wishes to thank all those who helped to make the occasion a success. A very pretty sight in the Taita is the wattle trees which are now in full bloom. They were much admired by visitors during the week-end. The Taita Football Club dance will be held at the Taita Hall on the 22nd August when a large crowd is,expected to be present. A novel innovation was. experienced at the Taita football ground last Saturday, when the description of the Rugby game, Poneke v. Oriental was described to the crowd by a wireless apparatus and loud speaker' which was installed in a car standing alongside the field. The players at Taita enjoyed the lineout for.it gave them an opportunity of hearing how the game at Athletic Park was progressing. , Mr. Fred Rennie, who has taken over the management of the Taita Hotel, evinces a keen interest in all branches of out-door sport. He was in business in Lower Hutt some years ago. Football. Taita played a good game against Ka<rori on Saturday at the local ground in the presence of a most enthusiastic crowd, and were successful in defeating their opponents by 18 points to 0. The game was fast and open and at times very exciting. Scorers for Taita were J. Searle (2 tries), G. Gorrie (2), P. Brico (l),_and S. Carter (1). All the players played a really good game, the two outstanding men being A. Borra and P. Brice. Mr. F. Halley ably controlled the game. The Fifth team suffered defeat from Technical Colleg A_by 16 points to nil. The Seventh team were again successful in defeating Athletic by . 6 points to"~hiL Next Saturday Taita will meet Porivxia, at Wakefield Park No. 4., when a hard game is expected to result. The Seventh Grade team versus Petone.
