Senior B v. 'Varsity.

The Senior B. eleven entertained 'Varsity on Hutt No 2. in what proved the most interesting senior B game witnessed there this season. The position in the championship at the commencement of the game was that Hutt were three points behind 'Varsity who were leading, having won all their games to date. Hutt had lost one game and drawn one. The game opened fast and willing, and it was immediately seen that every man realised the important 'effect, the result would bear on the championship. Play for the first fifteen minutes was dominated by both half lines, but 'Varsity's passes appeared to be more accurate than those or the maroons. However, during the second portion of this period the play seemed to be slightly in favour of the Hutt. and Hodgkinson netted with a well taken but unsavable shot. This reverse spurred the visitors on and time after time were almost through, but Ross and Bennett were a thorn in their side. However, once they succeded in

beating thejjtoaeks but found the goalie had relieved the danger by conceding a penalty corner to be followed by other three unsuccessful corners. At last Hutt relieved the pressure and had slightly the better of the exchanges till half-time which came with" Hutt leading by one goal. The second half opened even more willing every man playing all he knew, but still both sets of half backs had the opposing forwards well under control. Hutt were slightly in the ascendancy at this period and Loader netted but a free hit was given for some infringement. However, MeCaw made amends shortly afterwards. This second reverse made 'Varsity all the more determined and it was here that thie Hutt defence were subjected to a gruelling time and held out until a few minutes to go when McDonald got through, the Hutt back missing the ball and McDonald following on beat the keeper for the ball and scored. Time- sounded immediately after. Hutt 2, 'Varsity 1.

A fashionable woman, who collected her own rents in order to save expenses found one of her tenants in an obviously discontented frame of mind, and promptly decided to forestall complaints by making some. She ended jwith: "And the kitchen, Mr James, is i» a terrible condition." "Yes, ma'am, it is," Mr James agreed; "and you'd look the same way if you hadn't had any paint an you for six years."
