Extension, of Shopping Areas The By-laws Cofrnmittee reported as follows:— It has been suggested to the Committee that it might be desirable to discreetly permit the shopping areas to be extended into the streets branching off Main Street up as far as Brunswick Street. This was done prior to the Council adopting the shopping area plan, in the case of Pretoria Street and Laing's Road, and it is suggested that the extensions should be similarly permitted on other streets such as Waterloo Road, Queen's Road etc. Enquiries have already been received in connected with Queen's Road. It is suggested that the extension from the Main Street be permitted for a- distance of say three chains, provided that the shops are continuous, or practically so, from the Main Street, as in Laing's Road. Your Committee submits the above with a recommendation for favourable consideration by the Council. Cr. Meßain said he would like to see the shopping area extended to the other streets. i Cr.
