On Saturday, 23rd Juno a meeting !of the Progressive Association was i held, Mr A. P. Whitehead, the Presi- | dent presiding. The chairman reported that the executive had made representations to the Hutt County Council I through the riding's representative, !Mr Dyer, and was very pleased with.: the measure of support given to the Association's requests. Metal had already boon" placed on the road in front of the Hall and the overhanging trees wliich had become a danger to the hoods of passing cars, cut back. Metal in front of the postal boxes had met a long felt, want and was greatly appreciated by the residents. Visibility oh the road line north of the school was to be improved by cutting back the willows and an improvement : to the bad bend including' the filling in. of the dangerous hollow at the same point was to be carried out. The camber of the road at Mitchell's corner was to be improved. The question of making the western approach to Manor Park bridge reasonably flood proof was being looked into, it being a question of whose responsibility? Arrangements had been , made with Mr George's manager and the Station*- j master at Lower Hutt to notify passengers on trains especially school children when the bridge was impassible through flood. The Education Board replied that it could not see its way to arrange for the pupils attending - the Hutt High School to be carried by the Railway buses in such cases, as it was to raise the whole question of carriage of post primary children. In view of the fact that only, a few children were affected and then only three or four times in the year it was decided to represent the matter further to the Minister. Arrangements are to be made to call a Public meeting to form a Domains Board to take over certain reserves. Mr Wakelin gay enotice of motion to rescind the old rules and adopt an entirely new set of rules, copies of ■which were submitted to the meeting for consideration. The Hall Committee have been doing fin" work in their arrangement of entertainments for the residents and their friends and the Poster Dance to be held on Saturday the 28th June, has indications of being as big a success as the Fancy Dress Dance held earlier in the -month at which the Tvrize winners were:.—Miss Valeric, Spar;<H Dancer; Miss Joyce Whitehead. Shepherdess; "Mjfcs Castle. BoPopp:" Mr Kieth Thompson, Absent Minded Professor and Mr Aitken, Crcsader. The School Committee are working very h»rd in their arrangements to obtain a new school and their recent foneort wo understand -was a great sue -»•..<, fir>f> noisily.
