SUPPORT OUR ADVERTISERS

We desire to take this opportunity of bringing before the notice of our readers the fact that the existence of this journal depends upon the goodwill of our advertisers. We feel that such a publication as this fills a long-felt want in the district, and are proud of the many tokens of good-will, and the many evidences of public support that we have received. Nothing so encourages a shop-keeper to stock a wide Tango as the possibility that he will thereby sell more goods. Nothing cramps and hampers trade so much as the possibility that customers will be lacking..

What is the greatest incentive to progressive storekeepingt The idea that a progressive store attracts customers. What from the customers' point of view, is the incentive to shop in Ix>wer Hutt? The idea that goods in Hutt shops are both better and cheaper than those in Wellington shops. Perhaps we might say that goods in Hutt shops must be as good and as cheap as those in Wellington shops. And is this not the case? A stranger to the Valley recently toured the Hutt shops and expressed his astonishment at the range of goods and their moderate prices compared with, the goods and prices in other towns of a similar size. He stated that the prices ruling in the suburbs of Aiickland, for example, were generally in excess of those in the Hutt . We feel a particular responsibility towards the advertisers in our j-iurnnl. i and desire to stress the point that those Tesidents who appreciate tho "Hutt News'* should show their appreciation by supporting the stores which use its columns.
