WOBURN BOWLING & CROQUET CLUB
| The ladies- of the Croquet section of the Woburn Bowling and Croquet Club I entertained their friends arid wellwishers from the district and Wellingr ton in the {lance hall r King- G-eorgo Theatre last Wednesday afternoonand notwithstanding the unpleasant weather there was a g,ood -attendance, representatives of the various croquet clubs-be-ing; present. The Woburk Club is! indebted to Mra MeKenzie, Secretary of the ■Wellington. Croquet Association for the presence at the gathering of Messrs. Ross and Manray,. President and Vice-President reispeetively, of the JXqW Zealand Croquet CounciL Mr Boss in addressing the ladies of the Woburn Club congratulated them on their effort and wished them every success, which considering the rapid growth of the Hutt district he thought was assured. During the afternoon musical items, which were most enjoyable and mueli appreciated were given bY Mesdames Woods, King and Mitchell.] ■Various trophies were disposed of and afternoon tea was provided . The proceeds of the afternoon will bedevoted to the club's building fund. I On Tuesday last "The Lounge""Lowler Hutt deeoorated with bowls of hydrangea and foliage made an ideal setting for an exceedingly pleasant "At Home "at which the Honorary Members entertained the Active Mcmbera of the Wai marie Croquet Club . 'The guests numbering about seventy were received by Mesdames W. Lees, J. August and M. Upton. Mrs Bentley in a happy little speech welcomed the guests, and congratulated the club on a very successful year, and the splendid feeling of good fellowship which. existed between n the members. The President of the Club (Mrs G. H. Savage), in responding expressed the club's appreciation of the excellent manner in whicli the honorary members had assisted the club in the past, and hoped that the cordial relationship existing would continue. In concluding, Mrs Savage thanked all those who had helped to make tho afternoon a success. Arocal items whicli wcro greatly appreciated were rendered by Mesdames O'Shea, Lewis, and Miss Jones. Elocutionary items by Mrs Kobottom and a pianoforte duet by the Misses Muriel Adams and Jonas, added to the afternoons enjoyment. Afternoons, tea daintily set on small tables, decorated with vases of bright red berries, looked most inviting. Mesdames Richard son, Warburton and Foster are to be congratulated on the excellent arrangements made. The Art Gallery, an interesting competition caused a good deal of amusement. .During the afternoon, trophies were won by Mesdames Taylor, Hughes, Walker, Kelly, Ellis and Gibson. Among those present were thePatroness, Mrs W. T. Strand, Mesdames L. T. Wakhins, Hornley, Charles worth, linger, Oameron, Gowring, Murphy, Parker, Jones, Wagg, H. H. Judd, R« King, Stonehouse, Baigent', Eddie, Vaughan, Brookes, Davies, Yates, ~WHkie, Webley, W.'Judd, Haigh, Roundhill, August Senr., Stoupe, Milton, Fairburn, Exton, N\ Bell, Andrews, Capes, Nichols and others. •
Invitations bave been, issued £>y the Hutt Bowling, Tennis and Oroqueti Ck*tr to a Grand Ball to be held in the Town Hall, Lower Hutt, on Monday, 30th. July. An energetic committee is at work and the function promises to be the most outstanding one •which has ever been held in the Hutt Valley. Those who have not yet/received invitations and who may be desirous of attending the Ball, should communicate immediately with Mr James Stonehouse, Main Street, who is Secretary of th© Club, or any members of. the Committee
