XMAS TREE AND SOCIAL.
The annual Xmas tree for the children and social evening for the adults was held during Xmas week, and was a great success. The chlidren's party commenced at 4.15 p.m., and Bro. E. Swanson, N.G., took the part of Father Xmas, all the children being highly amused at his remarks to them, also on his appearance. Fortytwo children, ranging from six months up to eleven years of age, received a present from him. After the presents had been distributed the children were then entertained to a tea. There were plenty of good things on the table before they started, but only plates, cups and saucers when they had finished. The amusing part of the Xmas tree was to see Fathei* Xmas's child refusing to have anything to do with him. By the time tea was finished and everything cleared away it was 6 p.m., and the parents took the children home. 8 p.m. saw the parents' programme commence, and the first item was a dance. Mr. Lawrence and Miss Tonks, from Lyall Bay, gave two or three very enjoyable turns during the evening. Bro. Tom Conley obliged with two favourite songs, with Mrs. Conley at the piano. They were both encored heartily, but owing to having left his music at home Tom could not oblige again. More dances came along, then some community singing, and 11.30 p.m. concluded a very successful evening. The Social Committee of the Lodge are to be complimented on the splendid arrangements.
