Hutt Valley Choral Society

The Hutt Valley Choral Society announces its second concert for the 1927 season to be held in King George Theatre, Lower Hutt, on Tuesday evening next, the 27th inst. The Society achieved a notable musical success at its first concert in July, and the programme to be presented on Tuesday next is being eagerly anticipated by music-lovers in the Hutt Valley and in the city. This will be a remarkable concert in regard to the soloists who have been engaged for the occasion. There is in New Zealand at present a brilliant coloratura soprano—Miss Daisy Hall —who for some years has been studying grand opera in Milan and Palermo, preparatory to fulfilling engagements at La Scala (Milan), when the opera season opens there in July next. Miss Daisy Hall, who is a native of Dunedin, is the first New Zealander to achieve this distinction. She has studied under the Maestros, who produced Galli-Curci and Toti Dal Monte, and is said to rank with these renowned singers. At considerable expense and by the great kindness of Miss Hall, the Society has secured her for this concert, prior to her appearance hi Dunedin and other centres, and a magnificent opportunity is therefore offered to residents of the Hutt Valley and the city to hear her in their own district. Miss Ella Benbow, well-known as a pianist, whose wonderful recent recital in the Town Hall, Wellington, will be remembered with such pleasure,, will be heard in great pianforte compositions. Mr. George Ellwood is probably the greatest 'cellist that New Zealand has

produced, and it is confidently predicted that he will achieve worldfame in the years to cojhe. The Society, under its conductor, Mr. Douglas Tayler, will contribute delightful part-songs, including orie for male voices only. No one should miss this magnificent programme. - It will certainly be a notable concert. Prices are 3s. 3d. (reserved) (including tax), two shillings and one shilling (unreserved), and the box plan is at Shearer's.
