Lower Hutt Bowling and Tennis Club.

The annual meeting of the above Club was held in the club pavilion on Thursday, June 30th r -1927. There was a good attendance of members. The retiring president, Mr. H. Brooks, in opening the meeting, referred to the satisfactory position of the Club, pointing out that various alterations and improvements •. had been effected during the year. The sum of nearly £300 had been spent in a new building. The ladies of the croquet section had doubled the size of their pavilion, the cost of which had been raised by their own efforts. The Club had again been successful in winning the Duthie Cup, and a rink had been successful in winning the Edwin Feathers and the Marlborough Tournament. He congratulated the rinks in each of these competitions, stating that the successes achieved were an honour both to the

Club and the players who were responsible. The winners of the Club's competitions were:—Rinks: Messrs. J. Wood, F. Teasdill, W. Bock and T. Slinn (s). Pairs: Messrs. A. Roundhill and C. Ellis (s). Singles: Mr. C. Ellis. Junior singles': Mr'.' F. Teasdill. "the annual concert had again been held, and, under the direction of Mr. E. J. Hill, an excellent programme had .been submitted. He thanked Mr. Hill, the Ladies' Croquet Section, and Mr. J. Campbell, the concert secretary, together with the committee, for the good work done on that occasion, contributing to the successful result. The Club's membership at the end of the yenr showed: Bowling members, playing, 104, non-playing 10; tennis, 78, playing; croquet, 24 playing, 2 non-playing.' The following were the winners in the Tennis Section:—Ladies' championship singles, Mrs. Bush; ladies' championship doubles, Mrs. Bush and Mrs. Kell; combined championship doubles, Mr. and Mrs. Bush; men's championship singles, Mr. M. Power; men's championship doubles, Messrs. Power and Kitto; ladies' handicap singles, Miss R. Johnston; ladies' handicap doubles, Mrs. Bush and Mrs. Kell; , combined handicap doubles, Miss R. Johnston and Mr. Douglas; men's handicap singles, Mr. M. Power; men's handicap doubles, Messrs. G. Hill and R. Gordon. In the Croquet Section the results ";were as follows:—Club championship, ~ Mrs. Johnson -(Guinness Cup and. Mr. ;Brooks' trophy); runner up Mrs. Bock \( Club ...trophy);.. "A" .Grade handicap singles, Mrs. Parker (Mrs Hickson's trophy); intermediate singles, Mrs. Parker (Mrs. Eddie's trophy); "B" Grade championship, Mrs. Leighton (Mrs. Bock's cup and trophy); "B" Grade; handicap singles-—No.. 1 event, Mrs. Eddis (Mrs. Johnston's trophy); "B" Grade handicap singles—No. 2 event, Mrs. Leighton (Mrs. Parker's trophy); runner-up, Mrs. Rowe (Mrs. Parker's trophy); Club handicap pairs, Mesdames Johnson and Rowe (Club brooches and trophies); run-ners-up, Mesdames Ayson and Leighton (Miss Wilkins' trophy). In the Wellington Association tournament held in February at Kelburn, Wellington and Karori greens, Mrs. Johnson was runner-up in the open championship singles, and Mrs. Bock and partner runners-up in the open championship pairs. During the season, Mesdames Judd and Parker won the Association intermediate ferns, and held them for a short time. The election of officers for the en-

suing year resulted in the^ following being elected:—President, Mr. A. Burgess; vice-president. Mr. J; Kennington; secretary, Mr. J. Stonehouse; treasurer, Mr. L. Grant; general management committee, Dr. R. D. Barron, Messrs. R. H. Baillie, J. Campbell. E. J. Guiness, M. J. Hodpins, J. Keir, S. O. Millington, T. H. Norris, E. Yates; tennis, Messrs. R. McDonald, H. Hayes and M. Yates; hon. auditor, Mr. J. Scholes; match committee, Messrs. J. Campbell, J. Kennington and T. H. Norris; delegate to Centre, Mr. M. J. Hodgins. The meeting: unanimously decided to make Mr. C. H. Trea dwell a life member, as a- mark of appreciation for the excellent services Mr. Treadwell had rendered the Club for many years. It was also decided to revert to the old system of nomination rinks. A good deal of discussion took place in reference to the pennant games. The meeting finally decided that the representative to the Centre support the recommendation that the full playing strength of the Club be played in pennant matches. ports legislation to provide "summer time," on the grounds that the change will be advantageous to the general body of the community, by the saving of artificial light, tend to greater efficiency, and promote the health of the people.
