(Australia-New Zealand Cable Scrvieo.) (Received This Day 9.20 a.m.) THE PEACE PROPOSALS. Vancouver, Dec. 19. The Rt. Hon. D. Lloyd 'George has stated that he refused to enter into negotiations without a knowledge of Germany's terms. He fully endorsed every word that France and Russia uttered. Great Britain would formally answer Germany in a few days. London, Dec. 19. The Rt. Hon. D. Lloyd George states the Government will give a clear and definite support to France and Russia's answer which had already been given to Germany's peace proposals. The Allies had exchanged views on the note. Peace was impossible without the fullest restoration by Germany. The time had come to more formally consult the dominions on the war. and an Imperial conference would be held at an early date. (Received This Day 9.30 a.m.) RT. HON. W. F. MASSEY AT MANCHESTER. London, Dec. 19. The Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, when at Manchester, was entertained at luncheon by the- corporation. 'Lord Mayor Smothurgt proposed "Success to 'New Zealand." air Massey, in responding, said the peace terms were made in Germany.
It was impossible to forget the barbarous and brutal methods by which Germany had carried on. the war. They must understand that we were not going to be bullied or cajoled into a premature peace. We must avenge the death of many gallant men and make a repetition of this war impossible and thereby secure a peace whereof all will be proud. GERMAN SHIP ESCAPES. Valparaiso, December 19. The German-owned barque Tinto eluded the vigilance of the Chilian authorities at Port Calbuco and escaped. She is loaded with considerable supplies of provisions and manned by a crew distinctly superior to the ordinary sailor. It is believed the Tinto is attempting a privateering expedition or the formation of' a submarine base.
