A telegram from the British Legation at Athens states that two Greek fled Cross mrrses, after tending the wounded at the Legation (Porter and (Paylon) subsequently were arrested, dragged before the head of the police and shut up thirty hours without food or water in a filthy latrine. There were continuous attempts made against them, their house was looted, but they now are released. They state that police headquarters are fileld with Venizeliste, some of whom were battered to death, and some had their eyes gouged out. The late head of the see ret police was tied to a post and beaten on the head with a club by an orthodox priest. .BEATING OF JOSSES. New York, Dec. 6. Th© New York Times publishes a Paris story stating that General Joffre may be removed.
(Reecived This Day 10.55 a.m.) THE POLITICAL CRISIS. London, December G. The Westminster Gazetto states, that Mr Bonar Law has declined the invitation to form a Ministry. Tlie Daily Mail says that Mr As<(iiitli on Tuesday morning changed 11is mind and withdrew Ms assent in writing given to Mr Lloyd George stating that upon reflection he could not agree; consequently Lloyd George sent in liis resignation in writing. The Times welcomes Mr Asquith's whole-hearted sympathy, but says that Mr Asquith's proposal were hopeless and impossible as a basis of compromise.. 'What the situation now requires is a return to the well-tried English system of small harmonious Cabinets. The Daily News saws Mr Asquith's resignation is a humiliation to the country, and the result of a crusade engineered by Lord N'ortlicliffe; and tliat it is one of tho most sinister incidents in national history. Tho News adds: "The new Cabinet wil contain no Liberal clement apart from Lloyd George, but we hope *'ie House of Commons will give the Administration fair play.
