♦ T.Australia-New Zealand Cable Service THE GREEK SITUATION. Athens, December 1. An Allied transport laden with ■French troops has moored at Piraeui quay. King Constantine has signed a de cree, accepting army volunteers anc Greek troops have occupied the surrounding hill's and villages. The Kirij yesterday congratulated the officers ol the Ist Army Corps on their manly attitude and ordered them to refetet bj lores of arms any Allied attempt tc occupy buildings. Greek troops ma rolled in procession with bands of reservists through the streets of Athene, and considerably alarmed the populace. It transpired that the reservists were proceedings to the barracks, where they were supplied! with uniforms and armed. The Greek author-ties appeal' to be doing their best to maintain order and are calling up reservists. This removes a clangorous element from the streets. London, December 1. The Daily Chronicle's Athens correspondent Gays: "Admiral Du ,Fournet announces that his demands must be complied wiili. A French transport has wrived at Piraeus and has landed troops." Mr Jefferics cablcs from Athens that the General Staff has ordered' all unremovable munitions and war material to be buried or destroyed. Mi- Jeffries interviewed Admiral Du Fournet, who stated that he was determined to carry out the terms of his last Nbte. The Allies ■ desire to avoid bl'oodshed if possible, but unless the guns 'are handed) over they w'ill land a large detachment of troops and occupy previously chosen positions. Admiral iDu Fournet expects a quiet surrender because his forces are backed by the heaviest artillery. THE INVASION' OF RUMANIA. Petrograd,- Nov. 30. A Russian communique says:—• In the wooded Carpathians we took possession of the Rukada height. A battle is proceeding for the heights east ot KiiT_.iba. The latter are under our fire. The enemy occupied Roman, seventeen miles south-east of Bucharest. A Rumania communique states: There are volent actions along the whole north and north-west front. We progressed in the Buzeu and* Prahova valleys. Violent actions are in progress on the Glaxaciro. Hie situation on the southern front is unchanged. A Gorma.ii communique In the wooded Carpathians and on the frontier of Moldavia, the Russians continued their attacks and gained some advantages. The communique claims that the fall of Kimpolung opens the way across' the Toerburger Pass; also the capture of 1217 men and seven guns at Kimpolung. THE FRENCH FRONT. Pa ris, December 1. Official. South of tile Somme there is a vigorous reciprocal bombardment between Chaulnes Wood and Berny and near Massige in the Champagne, liench guns blew up an enemy ammunition dieport north of Four de Paris- in the Argonne. j !
