♦ PATRIOTIC ESSAYS COMPETITION. A prize competition open to all boye and girls attending any school in New Ze.iiland has been instituted by the National Service League, of Masterton. Prizes are offered for the best essays on "How You Menu to Help the Empire.' 1 Essays are not to be over 300 word*. Full address and age of writer to be plainly stated. The competition closes December 15th. To be judged by officers of the National Service League, their decision to,be final. Headmasters .Hind' teachers are asked to help by sending along only the best essays from their scholar. Parent* and teachers may moke suggestions to the children. The iprize list is as follows : Messrs Stewart Dawson and Co. Ltd. present two gold medals for best essays by boys and girls. Kaiapoi Woollen 'Manufacturing Co. present two silver watches as second prizes for boys ami girls. Tucker's Book Arcade. Carterton, present four third prizes (each a fountain' pen valued at 10s fid) for hoys and girls. Messrs "VVhitcombe and Tombs present £5 worth of 3s Cd books. The Highlander Condensed' Milk Co. present £5 worth of 3s Cd books. One book to be awarded for essay next in order o*f merit. Additional prizes will be awarded.
