LEVIN BOROUGH COUNCIL
Members of the Levin Borough Council Uekl their usual meeting in tlie borough chambers last evening. The mayor (Mr O. Blenkhorn) presided and councillors present were Messrs M. Fosella, E. M. Herrick, J. Harvey, S. Jones. J. Robertson, A. Denipsey and H. France. Streets Committee's Report. The streets committee recommended that the price and plans as submitted by Mr Oha.nnings. the road overseer, in connection with the concreting of a. port'on Dalgety and Co.'s stock saleyards be adopted. The price 'for No. 1 proposal being £7.1 los, and No. 2 £33 '17s Gd. Andc That the portion of Oxford-street extending from the Post Office on the east side of Oxfordstreet to the Arcadia Hotel, and from the 'Levin Hotel to Stiles and Matheeon's on the west side be tarred and sandied for a width of nine feet from the present water-table.
Councillor Dempsey explained the plane referring to tlic saleyards. The fall to be given to the concrete would be so little that the solids would not be washed into the cesspit and cause any nuisance. The yards would bo owept once a week. It was, in the absence of a drainage scheme in the borough a good; plan and he would like to see it carried out.
The recommendations in the report were adopted.
A motion also was agreed to that th© council carry out for Messrs Abraham and Williams the concreting of portion of their yards. The cost, £02, will bo bonne by Messrs Abraham and Williams.
