WAR AND THE BIBLE.
(To tfie Editor). Sir,—Mr Stealey's query nlbout "leading Christian men" is to the point; ~yet it barely touchcs the surface of my criTici.sni. "'Leading figures in the Bible itself" wouldi been a hotter shot, 1 admit. To be sure, the prophets and those who figure therein, and whose worda or actions are held up as examples for a puazled world to follow, w«re Jews. But -the fact stands that by their dieeds and examples they have created the ibasis of belief upon wihich the Christian religion has rested for centuries. I was referring to what the spiritual world's hunger had been fed upon. That is the point. The 'matter of the Nw Testament liaa nothing to do here. The New Testament i'b only mentioned in Mr Steeley's letter. I hardly thought it possible that- a minister would offer to take me up on a point that is not in question. I could quote- enough matter from EVJoses and Joshua alone to fully prove my contention, and have pienty to spare. But Ido not wish at this opportune time to push my advantage beyond a reasonable point. Mr Stealey thinks my statements "astonishing." I quito agree with him. They are all the more astonishing since, unfortunately, history and the Bible itself, say they are true.-J am, etc., PAIR PLAT.
