An electric machine, which -uts bread into slices, butters them, and discharges them on plates at the r>ate of 3000 an hour, was exhibited at" a London department store recently. A Haw era 'resident was lined £10 tor using stamps that were cLet'acod. The defendant admitted he had taken the stamps off an "instrument" he 'lad picked up in the street and used tiieui again. The Magistrate said such action was strictly illegal. In the first place, even it the stamps hlud uot been used, the fact of defendant finding the stamps on the street did not entitle him to make use of them. It is a definite point in English law that a "find" made in the street must be returned to the owner, failing that it must be handed to the police.
