liomoj Doc. 16. An English missionary in Syria reports that important preparations are afoot at Jerusalem and Jaffa for an expedition to Egypt, under tlie Gorman Gen. Trussemer. A double lialiway lias been constructed arom Damascus to Jerusalem and Gliaaa. (sonic distance beyond, the ancient frontier of Turkey in Egypt) to the isthmus of Suez. A hundred thousand men are garrisoning Jerusalem, which has been transformed into an armed camp, and strongly entrenched. The convents have boon converted into hospitals and the TuircoGennaii staffs and the inhabitants axe under strict supervision. Seventy thousand Turks, the remnants of the unsuccessful raiders 011 the Suez Canal now are camped, at Ghaza. ■ There is a shortage of rifles in the now forces and each hundred men are training with the same rifle. Only four old guns are available for the "Training ot' the artillery. FRENCH WAR BUDGET. Pans, Dec. 15. The Budget report estimates the expenditure for the first 17 month's of the (war at 31,000,000,000 francs, wherooT military expenses amounted to 2-5,000,000,000 francs. The avemgo monthly expenditure latterly has been j 181,01)0,000,000 francs. ' The Government' demands notes and credit for 7,514,000,000 francs for t'lie first quarter of 1916.
