Sir—My pertinent "remarKs 011 borough roadi maintenance lias not produced any disclaiming correspondence, but it must be understood that 1 wrote as a working man ratepayer. It was up to others better placed by property, and .financial horizon, to have gone one better.—l am ,etc., W.M.K. S I'IRJ TU AL MATTERS. Sir,—lt is vory pleasurable to be able to turn from the paltry and parochial, to hear the young lady evangelists in the Oddfellows' liall. They have not any extraordinary poAvers of orotory or delivery like some, but they are evidently sincere in ueiief, fervent in spirit. The tunas and words do not sound familiar like those of the American evangelist, but their singing has a hearty ring or resonance that makes up for any- apparent defect in that way. i wish them all encourage-, ment; the .service might be longer, and it would be wise on their part, ere long, to invite any present to either speak, sing or pray wefore concluding the service, not only as a note of appreciation, but as a test of faith. — 1 am, etc., W. M. F.
