It is a worthy object; giving the boys at the tann an opportunity to learn to swim, and will lje keenly appreciated by them. Subscriptions •will be received by Mr A. Dempssey and the Town Clerk, Mr G-ardener.
Levin Defence Rifle Cluu held a mooting last night. There was a good attendance. Intimation was received from the Defence Department that 50 rounds por man (out of tho 150 rounds duo for class firing; was now available. The club decided to start class firing on December 17th, when 14 rounds per man will be fired. It was decided to write to the member for £Ee district, asking him if he could club to secure a further instalment of the ammunition due to it under the class liring regulations. The Colonial Ammunition Company is to bo written to asking it if it can supply the club with 500 or 1000 rounds, and on what terms.
A rt liard-up" dance in aid of the Wounded .Soldiers' Fund will be held on Friday evening next (10th hist) in the TVeraroa Hall. Admission has been fixed at Is.

Colonel Patterson, of Auckland, is to proceed to. Samoa to relieve Colonel Logan, the present Administrator. The appointment is at present a temporary one.
A local lady, who has relatives In the camp at Rangiotu, took them out some cakes on Sunday. She loft tlio parcel in tlio ear covercd by a rug, while she sought out the "boys." On returning to the car it was discovered that the cakes had disappeared. The car was left standing at the main entrance to the camp.—Foxton Herald.
Owing to a series of mishaps to the engines of two goods trains bound for Wellington last night, the WellingtonAticklandi express was delayed for between two and three hours at Otaki. The engine of the express was employed to pull the goods trains on to the sidings out of the way.
