Miss Edith Gunning has been appointed relieving teacher at the l>araparnuinu school. Mr BoVis, who has recently enlisted in the Engineers was a visitor to Shannon on Saturday. FATAL ACCIDENT. A fatal accident happened at Mr .uiggins' mill at Tokomaru on Tuesday morning. A young mail named William McLeod was oiling the machinery wirle it was in motion. While beiuliifg over his coat was caught in the shafting air 1 he was whirled, round sustaining injuries which proved fatal. When the machine was stopped it was found tJKit he was badly injured in the head, his a nils were mutilated, and he had other injuries to the body, while his clothes had. been wrenched off him. He was conveyed by motor car to the hospital at Palmerston Noclth, butane died from the effects of his injuries before he readied that institution. The deceased 'who was 22 years of age was highly respected by all who knew him. He was minute secretary of the Lind Lodge of Druids and livetf with iiis mother, to whom the sympathy of his many friends will no doubt be extended on this occasion of her sad bereavement.

A serious accident occurred at the "big mill on Friday last. One ot the shafts connected; with the machinery broke, but fortunately no one rs injured. As the damage cannot he paired here the accident will render three strippers idle for a long time.
