Wanganui, This 1J ay - Mr Edgar Marchant, C.E., W'afiganui, who has enlisted for wervicv, has invented a new style of military bridge which lie intends placing uefore the Government and the military authorities. It is on tho cantilever principle, but embodies an'entirely new application of it, which qualified men here say, they have never seen or heard oi before. Its chief features are that it will give fifty per cent greater span than any other style of bridge building. It can be constructed without either nails, bolts, ropes or any other fastening, andi can be easily and rapidly put together. The brigade also is very ordinary totara carrying a" weight ot ordinary totara carrying a weight fourteen stone without any appreciable movement. Experts consider that foi military operations, in which simplicity and rapidity ot construction is essential, it would be difficult to surpass Mr March ant's invention.
