Correspondence af follows has been received: The Public "Works Department intimated that as the council had not availed itself of the department's offer ol a subsidy of £1 for £l up to £100 tor tlio !Manakau South road, the offer was now -withdrawn. The Board of Agriculture has set oi> foot a movement to encourage sc-liooi children throughout New Zealand to collect grass seeds on the roadsides and ■waste places this coining season, trie* proceeds from such seeds to he devoted to the "Wounded Soldiers' Fund. I" order that the necessary arrangements may lie gone on with. t'he hoard lias requested the formal permission if Hie council for the children to collect seeds, j Mr L. /St. George wrote asking if there was not some mistake in charging rates on property, which, lie claimed, was used exclusively as a place of worship. He had no recollection of being asked to pay rates on it belore. A letter was received from R. Campbell, of Waikanae. stating that lie was prepared to erect a ur-idge to carry a 10-ton load over the stream at Paddon s Bend, and do the lorming and make tlie necessary excavation to put the road 'in good order, for the sum of £80. A request to reduce from L'-'i 3s to L'l Is, the annual license lor a billiard tablo at Manakati was received from N. Anderson. Inadequate access to Jfcis property -ii the terminus of the Kaliinau road. Mnkcrua, was the substanco oi a complaint received from T?. M. Lange. He asked the council to give the matter attention.
