THE HOY SCOUr .MOVEMENT. .-[By our Resident Representative. J ■Oil Friday afternoon Mr Hurley, orjjanijfior of the boy and girl scout inoveriieut addressed upwards of 100 children "of the Shannon school. He explained the objects oi' the_niovemcnt. ' ~ and how bodies of scouts -were formed in other places amongst the children. There were in all about 1700 boy scouts in the Dominion, and lie hoped to form ii body of scouts in Shannon, .and get scoutmasters.and mistresses 10 interest themselves and carry on the work. Branches already had been formed in Levin and Otaki. The girl scout movement was somewhat different from the boy*, the szirls being styled peace scouts. The unifor us would cost Jls fid each, but the only thing necessary at first was a UadcnPowell hat. Mr Law had consented to act as scoutmaster. The movement bad met with sreat favours .and was .9 u.scfr.i I'liscijdiiH' for the chile*t'ii. and no doubt more would I.l> heard of it in Shannon before long. "When the scout master is appointed another meeting will he held and tin l matter will be put on a -workable rasis. The children here are keen on it. and in all probability the scout, movement will lie brought to ji successful iseuo here.
