The federation now was floated, though 'directors had yet to be elected. The thing now was t-o secure an assured linanco and the way to do this was to get the petition to the Government, asking for an orchard tax sigued. liie proposal ro the orchard tax was* altered to exempt all orchards under two acres in area. He oonsidered that the scheme would be successful. Ail the Association's remits were passed by the conference. Mr Fosella reported that he guaranteed on behalf of the lion Lo towards the expenses of t'no Dominion apple show to be held in May next. The meeting confirmed this action. A vote of thanks aud appreciation was passed to Messrs N'eill and JL'osella lor their 'work at the conference. A most interesting paper on "SoilIts .Formation, etc." was read by Mr iWkell. and Mr Black followed with a paper on "The Tillage of fck)i[." Both papers were listened to with keen attention, and various points discussed later. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to -Mr Rocket! and Mr Black for the papers. A vote of thanks to chair concluded the meeting.
