Councillor Cately asked what was tho position of councillors who Had been elected to the Council since these unauthorised amounts had been incurred ? He j was not assured when informed by other councillors that they -were liable equally with other councillors. The elfect ot this information on Councillor Cately raised hearty laughter, arid after coun- j cillors had their joke, they told him the true position—that only members of the Council at the time the unauthorised expenditure was incurred were liable, and Councillor Cately's mind was set at ease. Regarding the Audi-tor-General's letter, it was decided to refund the amount as requested. Accounts amounting to £839 14s were passed by the Horowliciuia County Council at its meeting oil Saturday. Ab the Levin £01. Court tliis morning before Mr 13. If. Gardener, i'tikii Wirihana and George Tahau were charged with committing a breach of the peace on Saturday night when a. brawl took place in front ol the Levin Hotel. Puku pleaded guilty and was tined 10s. Tahau pleaded not guilty, but was lined 10s in default -18 hours' imprisonment in Levin.
