New Zealand Butter.
Shipments of'butter from Now Zealand to Australia have continued with-, out interruption, though in varying volume, ever since the demand created by the shortage. During flie 10 weeks ended June 16 the export from Auckland and Wellington to. the Commonweath amounted to 21,36(3 boxes of 561b each. Commenting on the situation, the New Zealand Herald says that a statement was made by the Prime Minister (Mr Massey) on April 30th that as the butter which was being purchaseu in Australia was being used to fill contracts with Java and other places the Government proposed to guard against a shortage of supplies for the Dominion's requirements by regulating the exports. An Order-in-Council was issued on May 2nd prohibiting the export of butter from the Dominion save with the consent of tli9 Minister for Customs. Inquiries madjk in New Zealand indicate that in ho has this permission been far at all events as the shipment of ter from Auckland is concerned," while the returns show that during the fortnight following the issue of tho proclamation the shipments amounted to over 8500 boxes. Since then tho shipments have not been 6o heavy.
