Shannon Notes
[By our Resident Representative.] SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The usual monthly meeting oT the Shannon School Committee was held on Monday evening. The headteacher's report showed that there were 27-1 children on the roll and the average attendance for the quarter was 240a number too small to ensure an increase in the teaching staff or the accommodation. Mr Yoysev urged the necessity of parents who had children between the ages of five and seven years sending them to school in order to enable the school to reach the required average, viz.. 241 for the whole year. Considering the bad weather the average attendance was fairly good. Miss Maynard had been absent on sick leave and her place had 'been taken by Mrs Holbrook, a relieving teacher. It was decided to leave the matter of levelling the schoolground till the weather had cleared up. The committee voted on the two candidates for the vacancy on the Education Hoard, and after transacting some routine business adjourned.
