Horowhenua County Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Horowhenua County Council is being liffid to-day in the Council Chambers. Councillor G. Watson is presiding. The following correspondence is being dealt with.— A plan of the proposed now ferroconcrete- bridge over the railway line at South Manakam was received from the Railway District Engineer. Mr W. H. Field, M.P., forwarded a letter from the Hon. W. Fraser, Minister of Works in connection with die erosion going on of • the Waikanae 'river banks. The letter advised that a necessary preliminary to declaring the Council ii river board was the constitution of a river district. JS T o liver district can be conslftuted under the River Boards' Act until a petition is presented, signed by not less than a majority of the ratepayers within tha area of the pro]x>sed river districts. If this is obtained the Council should pass a resolution concurring in the prayer of the petition and forward •■) copy to the ©opartincut of Internal Affairs.
The District Engineer (Mr A. Koch) wrote intimating that the application for wicket gates at Te Horo station cannot he granted. Gates in such a position would ibe an open invitation to the public to cross the siding* which would sooner or later lead to accidents.
