Manawatu Htnt.
— « The Manawatu Hunt's "meet" yesterday was very well attended in spite of the bad weather. The rendezvous was at Kaiianga, and two good runs were obtained, the throw-off being at the homestead oi Mr J. Balsillie, thence across the properties from there to Mr D. D. McEwen's farm on the order, and some good fencing to negotiate the course and had to make use of gateways. The following-were among the field:—Miss Meade, on Jvaka j Messrs D. 13. McEwen (master, Kingman; J. Sexton (huntsman) Papa; A. Buick (lion, whip) Dr Jim; A. Meagher, SNlaJster; T. Paki, Puketotara; P. Henry Kurapatangi, 2s T . Green, Bill Pearce; A Farland, Abercode; H. it. Lancaster, Emblem; Les. Little, Goldie; E. Watson, Green Stripe; T. George, Peach Pie; A. Olliver, Muleteer, and others. The drags were laid by Miss Meads and Messrs Earland and Shaw. At the conclusion of the Hunt the followers and their friends were entertained at afternoon tea by Mr and Mrs J. Balsillie, and after full justice hade been done to good thing provided the master" of the hunt, Mr D.
McEwen, proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the host and hostess. He said Mr Balsillie had not only givea them, permission to use his paddocks but had offered to entertain them, and he and Mrs Balsille had done this right royally. The vote was carried with cheers. Mr Balsillie, in replying, said he tooK an interest in hunting because it ! brought out"tho best traits in man and horse, and for that reason should receive encouragement. He would be ■only too glad to see them as often as 'they liked to come in that part of the season which did not interfere -with sheep farming. He thought also that these little gatherings did good in bringing folks together and making them feel more like one family, and brought a. bettor feeling of sociability. Three vJieei-s were given for the property owners by the gathering.—Standard.
