Hospital Charges
MOTION TO INCdUOASE.
Mr A. E. Pearee moved at the i'almerston Hospital Board meeting that the charge at the Eiotspitul be increased to £2 2s pel' week. j-juo said it was well known Unit the fees charged at present wore considerably losss that it cost'ifqr lnaintainanie. it was not fair to ask a certain section of the commturity to pay increased levies to relieve those who received treatment and who were in a position to pay. Sir James Wilson seconded the auction pro for inn. allhrough he would vote against- it. 'With all respect to l)r Valintine. be did not think that he knew a great deal about the internal running of hospitals. He did not think tliat the suggestion to raise fees would tend to mei-enw the revenue. The -Mayor thought they should keep the hospital fees within the reach of all. He moved that -where a patient is receiving less wage* than 4.3 per week there be no charge. This was seconded by Mr Hornbtow. He did not think medical men used enough discrimination in regard to sending patients to the hospital. Mr Nathan was opposed to both the motion and amendment, considering that the present system was most suitbale. On being put to the meeting, both j the motion «nd amendment were lost. -—Daily Times.
