The Gymkana.
A meeting of the Levin carnival sports committee was held in the Council Chambers last evening. There was a fair attendance ami Mr D. W. Matheson presided. The main purpose o-l the meeting was to discuss the proposal made a short while ago to hold a gymkhana. After a brief and business-like discussion it was decided to hold it on Wednesday, June 18. It was agreed to hold a monster procession, and to ensure its succees it was decided to seek the co-operation of all Friendly Societies, sports bodies and other associations throughout the Horowhenua district.. The following committee was set up to organise the procession.—Major G. M. Burlinson, Messrs Hammond Murray T G. Vincent. E. W. J. Smith, A. Smart and A. Rockell. Major G. M. Burlinson will be asked to act as marshal! of the procession. Messrs A. Smart and J. Young wero appointed iJo make all arrangements in connection tilth the gates The afternoon tea was left in the hands of Mrs B. R. Gardener and Miss Bowen with power to obtain all necessary assistants Produce stalls committee.—Messrs F Retter, J. Procter, E. M. Herrick, A F. Wilson, H. Denton, M. E. Gorringe, W. Simpson, G. Kingdon, R. V. 'Brown and J. Johnson. Mrs F. Pink was appointed to take charge of the tobacco stall. The gipsy tent will be run by Mrs A. I l '. Wilson, Mrs Franklin Webb and Miss Maxwell Brown. A. "mock court" -will be held and Mr P. W. Goldsmith was appointed "judge," and Messrs J. I'. White, D. W. Matheson, F. O. Smith, H. Denton, E. W. J. Smith, F. Pink, Mrs Pink and Miss Bowen were appointed a "police" force. Lolly stall.—Mesdames D. P. Porteous, Silk and Miss Clarke. Mr A. Smart is to make arrangements for the guessing competitions. The organising of collectors was left to Mr Matheson and Miss Bowen. Sports committee.—Messrs J. Young, A. Smart, J. Procter, C. H. Judd, C. Howe, M. Winiata, D. S. Mackenzie. AH the above committees have power to add-. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 9th inst., at Y. 30 p.m.
