LAYING DOWN A LAWN. WTTeli it is desired to form a lawn, flio ground should be trenched as directed for the vegetable garden any time during the autumn. If the plot can be prepared in March, a season n:ay bu gained by (sowing the grass seed during that month; lh,e surface must bo thoroughly pulverised and trodden down firmly. The following is a good mixture, it procurable:— Crested Dog-tail. 21175; r'estuea lonuifolia, libs; Kestuea duruscula, 21bs; liolium tcnuifolia perenne. 201bs; White clover .21 bs; Trifoliuni minor, 81 bs; Poa Nemoralis and Sempervirons libs of each. This mixture will "titlice for hull an acre, and will form a very goud lawn, and II kept cut close answers most soils. Special mixtures for laying down lawns may also be nail from any seedsman. Some of our native poas and other grasses would answer admirably tor lawn purposes. If the ground is of a retentive nature, sowing the seeds should be deferred till August. Commence to cut as soon as the machine will act. Some oreI'or the scythe for the first timo of rutting. Roll previous to mowing: this will save the knives ot the mower.
