LOCAL AND GENERAL
It will interest the many Levin friknds of Dr F, H. Young, wBo wu acting u locum tenens for Dr Davie* some tw«lv« months ago, to know, that in April ha was on board a transport at Alexandria. On the outbreak of the war Dr Young volunteered for active service and was subsequently attached (a* a lieutenant in the medical corps )to an ammunition column in England. Indications are that tliia column ha* landed at the Dardanelles cod the- tloctor has proceeded to one of the base hospitals. It is quite possible, therefore, that sbme of the wounded men from Levin as elsewhere in New Zealand will come under his ©are. The proceeds of the Koputaroa school children's picnic and prize fund (amounting to £12) were sent to Wellington for the Belgian Fund on Tuesday, by the secre'tarj of the iwhool committee (Mr S. A. Broadbelt): Thi children will hate a further contribution to, make from the sale of potatoes .grown in thfc school garden plot and attended to by ths scholars. 1 The gymkaha arranged by Maj6r Bnrlineon arid his staff at Wfcrirqfc Training Firm for boys- will be hfcld on' Wednesday, 7th July. So many events intervened after this eriginal fixing of a date that this setting forward wa* essential. A* the season will be midwinter, the gymkana will be held in the Century Hall instead' of on Levift recreation ground, as arranged in the first place. Ths prooefeds of the gymkana are to be devoted to the fund for, relief of destitution Amongst t"h* /
